Understanding Your Gas Bill

Effective April 1, 2024 the Federal Fuel Charge increased to $4.10/GJ ($80 per tonne).  These rates are prescribed by the Government of Canada on an increasing scale and are scheduled to increase to $95 per tonne in April, 2025 which equals $4.99/GJ.  By April 1, 2030 the rate is scheduled to be $170/tonne or $8.94/GJ.

Natural Gas Utilities are required to charge these rates as per the federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act.  All fees charged under this Act are remitted directly to Revenue Canada.  For information and inquiries on the Federal Fuel Charge, please visit:
